ABOUT RICK ELLIS
Alonzo "Rick" Ellis was born in Columbus, Ohio in 1952 and spent his formative years watching the shifting city change around him. He attended The Ohio State University through the 1970s, pursuing his passion for photojournalism. Photography was a way of observing special moments and capturing the unseen in an ever-changing landscape.
Ultimately Ellis would find that he made more money bagging groceries at the local supermarket than pursuing photography as a career. He moved from Photojournalism into a successful career in Public Relations with the Attorney General's Office, the Cleveland Public Schools, and AT&T.
More than forty years later, his family discovered a collection of photos that revealed a time capsule of another time. The body of work, spanning 1974-1985, is a testament to the soul of Columbus, its history, and to a dream deferred: a raisin in the sun.
Ellis retired from his professional career in 2021 and now resides in Hilliard, Ohio.
